How topics are chosen

We choose questions a beginner or intermediate carver actually encounters: selecting a stone, deciding which tool is needed, understanding a cut, handling a problem or finishing a piece. Before adding a page, we check whether an existing guide already answers the same question. If it does, we expand that guide instead of making a near-duplicate page.

Research and review

Technical claims are checked against relevant specialist instruction, material information and authoritative sources. Safety claims receive additional scrutiny using occupational-health guidance and the instructions for the particular tool or material. Sources are linked where they help readers verify or go deeper. We do not assume that every source has equal expertise; see our sources policy.

We aim to answer the core question early, explain terms, identify where material or technique changes the answer, and keep unsupported certainty out of the copy. Every article is reviewed for internal consistency, useful links and whether it still addresses its stated question. Publication dates identify first publication; an updated date is added for meaningful revisions, not cosmetic changes.

Experience and commercial relationships

Research is not first-hand testing. We do not claim to have carved a piece, used a tool, attended a workshop or tested a product unless that happened and is described transparently. No professional qualification, named author or staff member will be invented. If the site later carries affiliate links or advertising, those relationships will be disclosed and will not determine a safety recommendation. See the affiliate and advertising pages.

We periodically review guides and correct substantive errors when identified. Meaningful revisions receive an updated date.
